  • Feb 19, 2013Sri Lanka Youth Statement for Rio+20The Youth Statement was submitted by ‘Youth for a Greener Sri Lanka’ (YGSL), as per the request made by Focal Point, Rio+20 Conference, Secretary, Ministry of Environment2 Sri Lanka to be included in the Sri Lanka Country Report to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development June 2012.


In the area of Energy, Environment and Disaster Risk Management, UNDP Sri Lanka works at the national, sub-national and community levels, and promotes environmental sustainability, renewable energy, climate resilience and disaster risk management. It supports the Government of Sri Lanka to meet its international obligations vis-a-vis environmental protection, including compliance to the three Rio conventions, strengthens the institutional and policy frameworks for disaster risk reduction and facilitates partnerships and knowledge-sharing around best practices. At the sub-national and community levels, it works through programmes such as the GEF Small Grant Programme (GEF/SGP) to support communities to generate home-grown solutions to environmental management.
