Finale event of the Twinning Schools Programme to take place from 18-21 April in Badulla

11 Apr 2013

The finale event of the Twinning Schools Programme (TSP), an initiative implemented by UNDP’s Transition Recovery Programme (TRP), with support of the Australian Government Overseas Aid Program (AusAID), will be held from the 18th to the 21st of April 2013 in Badulla.

Initiated in 2011, the TSP has brought together 210 school children and 50 parents and teachers, from 21 schools, from the districts of Jaffna, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Ampara, to date, with the aim of improving interaction, understanding and co-existence among and within socio-culturally diverse communities.

The Finale event will bring together the participating children and adults, providing a platform to showcase their talents, providing them  further opportunities for learning and skills development and most importantly, offering them a further opportunity to strengthen ties with one another. The event will also host a learning session for partners to exchange experiences with the objective of informing and improving similar exercises in the future. The event will also see the active involvement of volunteers and promotion of volunteerism.

The TSP is the third successive schools twinning initiative implemented by UNDP and supported by AusAid, since 2005. These initiatives have reached over 1200 students and 150 teachers across 12 districts in Northern, Eastern, North-Central and Southern Provinces.
