'Engage to Disengage' is an awareness building and training programme on 'Critical Media and Information Literacy' for youth developed by UNDP Sri Lanka as part of the HackaDev Academy of Learning and Skills in partnership with the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding. The programme aims to equip young people with an understanding of the importance of media and other information providers in order to make informed decisions, learn about the world around them, build a sense of community, maintain public discourse and engage in best practices for community-based interaction.
Engage to Disengage will enable young people to:
- identify, access, and retrieve information and media content skilfully
- analyze and evaluate media and information critically
- create or produce, share or communicate, and use information and media content ethically, safely, and responsibly for decisionmaking and taking action
- create awareness around fake news, conspiracy theories, misinformation and hate speech
- minimize the spread of misinformation and its negative impacts on society by creating a network of youth who are 'Critical Media Literate'
