07 October 2020, Colombo, Sri Lanka: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka (VTA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop and expand work towards building a future-fit young generation through proposed programmatic interventions. The MOU will serve to establish and implement joint efforts to bridge the gap between future of work and entrepreneurship and youth capacity building.

The MOU was signed by Mr. Robert Juhkam the Resident Representative of UNDP in Sri Lanka and Mr. Damitha Wickramasinghe the Chairman of VTA. Also present at the occasion were Mr. Sanjaya Jayamanna, Vice Chairman and Mr. Saman Kulasuriya, Director-Career Guidance and Promotion of VTA.

The objective of the MoU is to jointly design and implement capacity and skill enhancement programmes for young people enrolled with the VTA., The programmes will focus on Leadership, Innovation and Entrepreneurship skills and will be carried out through UNDP Sri Lanka’s HackaDev Academy of Skills and Learning.

Further they will collaborate on the institutional strengthening of VTA including the teaching capacity of VTA programme officers, and improving the digital infrastructure of the institution.

This initiative is part of UNDP’s long-term partnerships with the TVET sector institutions in Sri Lanka.
